Updated List: Residents from 12 More Countries Can Enter China
According to official sources, up until August 27, 2020, foreign nationals with valid residence permits (employment, personal affairs, and reunion)from a list of 13 Asian countries and 36 European countriescan apply for visas in local Chinese embassies/consulates to enter China.
Details of the requirements of each country are as follows.
Asian Countries
List of applicable countries:
Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Brunei, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste
Japan
To further facilitate the entry of personnel between China and Japan, according to domestic authorities, those who have recently met the following conditions may submit their applications to the China Visa Application Service Center (Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya) or the Consulate General in Nagasaki, Fukuoka, Sapporo, and Niigata.
**Includes Japanese nationals holding valid residence permit (work, private affairs, and reunion) to go to China for the purpose of their stay in China with their existing residence permit.

Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur Chinese Visa Application Service Center (referred as the Center) will provide visa applications and legalization services to those applicants who meet the emergency requirements.
**Includes Malaysian citizens holding a valid China residence permit (working, visiting relatives working or studying in China, family reunion residence permit type) may proceed to the Kuala Lumpur Chinese Visa Application Service Center for free visa applications.

South Korea

Korean nationals hold valid residence permit for work can apply for work visa at a local Chinese embassy or consulate (China Visa Center).
Korean students holding valid residence permit for study can apply for student visa at the local Chinese embassy or consulate (China Visa Center) to return to China.
European Countries
List of applicable countries:
Albania, Ireland, Estonia, Austria, Bulgaria,North Macedonia, Belgium, Iceland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Poland, Denmark, Germany, France, Finland, the Netherlands, Montenegro,Czech Republic, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Romania, Malta, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, Serbia, Cyprus, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Greece, Hungary, Italy, United Kingdom
Some foreign citizens that have valid Chinese residence permits are allowed to apply for a new visa to re-enter China, in a move that aims to facilitate exchanges after the prevention and control of COVID-19 in the country, according to a notice published on the website of the embassy of China in the Kingdom of Denmark on Monday (August 10th).
And on Aug 11th, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Germany/Frech/Spain released the same notice.
Foreign nationals from a list of 36 countries including Spain, Greece, Hungary, Italy, the UK and Latvia, who hold valid residence permits such as work permits, permits for family reunion and personal matters, can apply for visas at any Chinese embassy or consulate in their home countries free of charge,according to the notice.
NOTICE:
For residents from other countries or don't hold a valid residence permit, may apply for an invitation letter (PU letter) and apply for an M visa (Business) from the Chinese Embassy and Consulate to return to China.
